Anthropic’s Super Bowl Ad Propels Claude Chatbot to Top 10 App Store Ranking
Anthropic's Claude chatbot surged in popularity following its Super Bowl advertisement, marking an 11% increase in daily active users and a 6.5% rise in site visits. The campaign, which criticized OpenAI's ad-supported ChatGPT model, resonated with viewers, propelling Claude from No. 41 to No. 7 on the U.S. App Store—its highest ranking yet.
The ad's success coincided with Anthropic's $30 billion funding round at a $380 billion valuation, more than doubling its September valuation. U.S. downloads for Claude jumped 32% to 148,000 in the three days post-Super Bowl, outperforming rivals like OpenAI, Google Gemini, and Meta.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman dismissed the ad as "deceptive," but the backlash did little to stem Claude's momentum. With 125 million U.S. viewers tuning in, the Super Bowl proved an ideal platform for Anthropic to differentiate its ad-free AI assistant.
